Detailed Site Plan
Castle Hill Phase 1 sits within the larger strategic site known as Eastern Quarry. As shown on the aerial view, the site is in close proximity to Bluewater Shopping Centre, Ebbsfleet International Station and the existing village of Swanscombe.
As part of the overall master plan for Eastern Quarry, Phase 1 is designed to link with the proposed cycle ways and pedestrian links around the rest of the overall development. The roads for this scheme have been thoughtfully designed in a range of contrasting surfaces to provide legibility and traffic calming. The roads meander to slow the traffic in an informal way and provide the opportunity for on street parking and landscape planting. Dedicated cycle routes are provided along the Northern Access road that then link through though the green spaces to provide links through into later phases of the overall development. Pedestrian routes within the development link with the planned routes. The internal roads consist of lanes and mews terminating in private drives at the ends of the roads providing full supervision of all parking areas. Informal traffic calming generated through a variety of measures from surface demarcation and building positioning to the inclusion of private drive areas; mean that there are opportunities for informal social spaces through out the development.

Castle Hill Phase 1 Connections
Pedestrian and cycle routes will be integrated into the design of all phases within Eastern Quarry to ensure links to the rest of the development. Pedestrian and cycle routes will be created to allow access to Ebbsfleet International Station. In addition the creation of a fast track bus route through the centre of the development will connect residents to local shopping areas, amenities and public transport routes.
Location of current bus stops close to the development
The development is currently served by bus routes along Southfleet Road as shown. In the near future a fast track bus route will be in place, running through the centre of the entire Eastern Quarry. Ebbsfleet International Train Station is within walking distance of the development, with a new path being installed between the site and the train station, providing residents with high speed rail into London, to the south coast and into mainland Europe.

The layout of streets and open spaces has been designed as a permeable grid to orientate people towards public transport and soft modes of travel. The provision of various street typologies and hierarchies will enable the creation of a high quality environment which provides a variety of spatial experience tailored to the overall design of each development parcel. Buildings and spaces, following the design code, will be designed to be memorable and aid way finding through the use of markers and gateways.

Affordable housing parcels have been pre-identified and mixed throughout Castle Hill allowing for the integration of affordable and market housing.
Street Scenes
The Design Code identifies different character areas throughout Castle Hill as a whole. Phase 1 is identified as a Kent Village, with different character areas created through:
Streets & movement - hierarchies and typologies
Built form structure - different block morphology, building heights, building frontages
Architectural themes - varying streetscape composition and boundary treatments
Palettes - different materials and landscaping
The elevational treatments have been varied to distinguish between the 4 character zones - Arts and crafts, Country park edge, Kent village centre and Kent Village Centre Lanes
